Shakira is the highest selling Colombian singer who won two Grammy Awards and eight Latin Grammy Awards and has been dominating the Latin American pop music since 1990s. She is also a lyricist, instrumentalist, choreographer and dancer.

Born to William Mebarak Chadid and Nidia del Carmen Ripoll Torrado, Shakira’s first Music album Magia was released in 1991 when she was only 14. The album was a commercial failure. Her next album in 1993 was Peligro, which fared better.

Shakira’s third album Pies Descalzos in 1996 sold over five million copies and brought her great fame in Latin America. The singles ‘Estoy Aqui’, ‘Pies Descalzos’, ‘Suenos Blancos’ and ‘Donde Estas Corazon’, which were included in the compilation album Nuesto Rock, became pop culture icons.
Shakira’s fourth album ‘Donde Estan Los Landrones’ was released in 1998.  Eight of the album's eleven tracks became singles, including “Ciega Sordomuda”, "Moscas En La Casa,”  “No Cero”,  “Inevitable”, “Tu”, “Si Te Vas” “Octavo Dia” and the world famous  "Ojos Asi’.  She won two Latin Grammy Awards for “Ojos Asi” and “Octovo Dia” in 1998 and 2000.

Shakira's first live album, MTV Unplugged was released in 2000 and she received her first Grammy Award for it. Laundry Service was released in 2001.  Although it was created for English language market, the album also featured four Spanish songs including “Que Me Quedes Tu”. Laundry Service was a success, with more than 15 million sales worldwide. The hits include  “Wherever Whenever” “Underneath Your Choice,”  “The One” and “Objection (Tango)”.

In 2002, Shakira released her all time greatest hit volume Grandes exitos. She received International Viewers’ Choice Award at the MTV video Music Awards. The same year she won 5 MTV Music Awards Latin America..She also received her third Latin Grammy Award for music video Sureto.

In 2005, Shakira released in Europe, Australia, North America and Latin America the first album of her Oral Fixation Project. She received two Latin Grammy Awards for the lead single “La Tortura”. She also received three Latin Grammy Awards and one Grammy Award for Fijacion Oral Vol 1. In 2006, Shakira received six Billboard Latin Music Awards for the same album. She was also honored with the Spirit of Hope Award.

Oral Fixation Vol 2 was released in November 2005 and its two tracks ‘How Do You Do’ and “Timor” turned controversial.  “Don’t bother” and  “Hips Don’t Lie” became world hits.
