Shankar offered her a role in his much-talked about film Boys after seeing the ad. Boys was a hit in Tamil and Telugu, and Genelia was flooded with Telugu film offers. She became a big name in the Telugu film industry when her film Satyam became an unexpected hit.

Popular Telugu actress Genelia D'Souza was born on August 5, 1987, in England. She is also known to people close to her as Harini. Her parents originally hail from Goa and later moved to England. After being born in England, Genelia studied at Apostolic Carmel High School in Bandra, Mumbai. After school, she joined the St. Andrews College, Bandra to pursue a Bachelor's Degree.

Genelia made her move from England to India in pursuit of her childhood dream of becoming an actress. She got her first break in the movie 'Boys' directed by Shankar. Glamorous Telugu actress Genelia has reportedly bagged the role of leading lady opposite Aamir Khan's nephew Imraan Khan in his debut movie Tu Ya Jaane Na. The film will be directed by Abbas Tyrewala and produced by Jhamu Sugandh. Famous music director AR Rahman has been roped in to provide the music.

The super success of her Telugu movie 'Bommarillu’, has made Genelia red-hot property in the Telugu film industry. This will be Genelia's third Bollywood movie. She earlier acted in Tujhe Meri Kasam and Masti.
