Jyothirmayi began as an anchor on the small screen and then took to acting on the small screen itself.

She then did a couple of rather insignificant roles on the big screen, in the Rajeev Anchal-directed Pilots and the Sibi Malayil-directed Ishtam.

It was then that Meesha Madhavan happened. The Dileep-starrer proved a crowd puller, and one major draw in the film was the hit song "Chingamaasam vannuchernaal...". Wedding bells soon rang, and Jyothirmayi tied the knot with Nishanth, a young software engineer. Everyone thought that it would be the end of her acting career, as was usually the case with young heroines. But for Jyothirmayi, things were different.

The young couple decided that she should continue to act, and Jyothirmayi was back again, doing an item number in a Tamil film - Ithaya Thirudan. The V.K. Prakash-directed Malayalam film Moonamathoraal too had her playing a central character.

Then came the Malayalam films Chacko Randaaman and Beda Dosthe. And in Tamil, she starred opposite Sundar C. in Thalainagaram. Her Malayalam film Pakal is due for release soon. She is doing a key role in the Tamil period film Periyar and also stars opposite Vijaykanth in Sabari.
