Barack Hussein Obama is the Junior United States Senator from the province of Illinois and the fifth African American Senator acoring to the U.S. Senate Historical Office and is the only African American who is a member of the U.S. Senate.

Right from the inception of the political career, Barack Obama has dedicated his life towards the cause of the public service as a community organizer, civil rights attorney, and leader in the Illinois state Senate. He served the Senate of Illinois from 1997 to 2004. Obama now continues his fight for the working families following his recent election to the United States Senate. From the time of his sworn into the office on January 4, 2005, he has been concentrating on the spheres of Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, that acts as the main backbone of the health care, schools, employment, and retirement programs of the United States of America. Apart from this he has been designated as a member of the Foreign Relations Committee that continues to play a vital role in the shaping of the American policy throughout the world, including the controversial policy in Iraq. Except than this Senator Obama is dedicated to the cause of serving to the Veterans’ Affairs Committee. The Committee has its center of concentration towards fulfilling the responsibility though providing the brave veterans of the nation with utmost care and services desirable by them. In the years 2005 and 2006, he happened to be the key man to serve on the Environment and Public Works Committee crafted with the sole intention of safeguarding the environment and provides funding for the highways, of the national and states.

It is stated that the eight years of his life when he was associated with the Illinois State Senate, that formed the foundation of his political career. Inn that sphere and span, Obama was instrumental to work with both the political parties, irrespective of ideologies, the Democrats and Republicans. The objective was to help working families get ahead through the creation of programs like the state Earned Income Tax Credit. It is to his credit that not only he worked successfully with the two political outfits, but also succeeded in the task of providing over $100 million in three years provided in tax cuts to families across the state. In respect of welfare program he was perceived to move forward for an expansion of early childhood education. In the incident when a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama joined up with the initiative of law enforcement officials to draft legislation that required the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.

It was in February 2007, when he was found announcing his candidacy for the U.S. Presidential Election in 2008. the recent polling results indicate the newest trend of his narrowing the gap with an esteemed and frontrunner contender of the election,  Senator Hillary Clinton. In his election campaign he has included the contentious issue of ending the Iraq War at the earliest and also his drive towards the implementation of Universal Health Care.
